As with most CZ-type pistols, it does take a CONCENTRATED effort to properly rack the slide, but you get used to it quick, you just need to do it with authority. A lot of the slide is hidden within the frame, but it is clearly paired down to the absolute minimum amount of material. As slab sided as the pistol looks(the shorter barrel P-carry looks like something out of Judge Dread), it is quite svelte and radiused everywhere. There are no sharp edges within reach of one's hands when in operation, and parting lines are minute and do not irritate under the trigger guard. There is a touch of Gucci in side grip 'panels' letting you know clearly this thing was designed in Italy. The poly frame is beautifully molded, with the main surfaces in a very pleasant texture, and the exotic checkering has a lot of bite, with nothing feeling abrasive or unfinished. The pistol has quite an eclectic mix of textures and surfaces. Even loaded it feels extremely light with great balance. With the slide pared down to the absolute minimum and ultra-light poly frame, this thing points like a laser, and suddenly feels half its size. I have never handled a pistol with this much area for contact with both hands, but never feeling porky like a Para double stack 1911. However, when you bring your weak hand up, the extra real estate makes for an incredibly secure grip of the weapon(the entire pad of your left hand below your thumb can rest on the grip), and has an amazing feel of control. The grip is excellent, but if you look at your hand on the pistol it does look quite strange with the extra real estate on the lower part of it. The poly walls to the mag well are very thin and the grip shows it. As big as the grip is in side view, its is extremely thin in profile. 45, it is configured in a 10+1(9mm up to 18+1), and a lot of it is from the length of the magazine. I have average hands(can pretty much find anything comfortable if not at the very least usable) and there is still room for an extra pinky and then some below my primary hand's grip. It narrows down substantially at the top half of the grip, so those with smaller hands can still get a decent grip on the trigger and control group, yet the lower part is outright huge. I have shot a few CZ's over the years and just have never 'pulled the trigger' on one of them or their clones yet. All this switching around of frames, multiple caliber selections, and other variations again make it hard to find any reviews that match the current line of pistols(although AR just did a review on them just a few months ago). With the full slide it pretty much matches the size of a 1911, although the lower grip is even larger as it flares out. They used to manufacture the 9mm/.40 cal in a 'small frame' and the 10mm/.45 in a 'large frame'. About 3 years ago, they revised the entire line of pistol frames, poly and metal. Tanfoglio developed the poly version of the CZ platform themselves roughly 12 years ago and CZ has them produce the poly frames for their line of pistols. 45 and 9mm versions have nary a complaint. I have seen mixed reviews on certain calibers, but the. Of course, they are way off the radar of the kool-aid clan and the regular snobs, but in Europe, they are extremely popular. Its not unusual for them to be returned with a full fluff-and-buff and/or a refinish, and in a very timely manor. Even EAA's customer service is often bashed, yet if you dig deep enough into threads from Witness owners, often an issue is taken care of and most of the time comes back with a lot of extra tweaking done at no cost. The general consensus is solid build and very accurate at a low price. Most of the critique comes from second-hand information and often based on pistols made over 10 years ago. Reviews online are few and far between and photos are scarce, but generally they are considered very solid pistols and have quite an underground following. Based on the CZ, they have made their versions in a dizzying array of calibers and configurations for some time, making it very hard to find any sort of review if you 'latch on' to a specific model. I'll skip the history as pretty much everyone interested in pistols is generally familiar with the Tanfoglio (imported by EAA). The Tanfoglio line of CZ based pistols has intrigued me, and when this one popped up on Bud's Gun Shop's website for only $380 shipped, I figured what the hell.
